Obamacare

Let me just start out by saying I know practically nothing except I’ve budgeted for personal healthcare policy since 2006 - that was my choice.  My problem with Obamacare is that it doesn’t appear to make more funding available, it regulates industry.  Everyone seems to think we will be getting free or cheaper healthcare; it’s not the case.  If your parents are employed with insurance and you are under 26, things look great for you.  If you have a pre-existing condition, you will be better protected.  Everyone else without insurance will have to find a way to pay for insurance.  However, if you have an emergency, you can go to an ER now and you have to be seen.  There are charity programs available.  There’s a lot of talk about preventative care and a lot of research that says its bunk.  Should this be a requirement?  It scares me to consider the gov’t might tell me how many check-ups I have to have a year.  I don’t necessarily agree with taxing citizens and forcing them to pay for a personal service - it should be a better-funded social service.  Nor do I 100% agree with regulating private industry, especially those companies not receiving government money.  Yes healthcare should be better handled in this country and Obamacare may (or may not) be a good step.  However, why isn’t this more far-reaching?  Where is the research money for new medicines, regulation of pharmaceutical private-public partnerships, (and the use of govt funds on advertisements) federal aid to women’s healthcare, the caps on malpractice suits, and limit to attorney fees?

Then Again…..
